The Setlife™ is helping build the next generation of filmmakers through a comprehensive FILM and MEDIA educational program where the FILM SET is the CLASSROOM.

Through an exploration of creativity, storytelling fundamentals, and technical skill and production development, filmmakers will gain a comprehensive understanding of how films, television, and web media are imagined, crafted, and shared with the world through the production of The Setlife™ YouTube channel —— an educational platform showcasing film and media education to the world through a uniquely Black perspective.

Filmmakers, storytellers, and creatives AGES 13-17 are welcome to the program.

Embark now on a creative journey through storytelling, film production, and media technologies that teach hands-on skillsets —— from screenwriting to operating a camera, cinematography to being on set as a production assistant and beyond —— The Setlife™ utilizes live film sets to teach media literacy, technical craft, advanced media concepts, and the fundamentals of independent film industry.

Or, filmmakers can jump ON-SCREEN as Film Ambassadors and be the face of our educational mission, mentoring other filmmakers worldwide, and putting their acting chops to the test!

^ What is The Setlife™ Project?

The Setlife™ Project is a film and media education platform focused on creating an inclusive independent film community for young Black creatives centered on teaching the fundamentals of screenwriting, film production, and media technologies through a comprehensive, hands-on, ON-SET experience.

THE FILM SET IS THE CLASSROOM.

NOTE: The Setlife™ Project is based locally in PHOENIX, ARIZONA and serves the East Valley/Central Phoenix area.

^ WHAT TRACKS ARE AVAILABLE FOR FILMMAKERS TO CHOOSE FROM?

Our THREE main tracks are the following with the potential for more to be added in the future:

^ THE WRITERS ROOM

Students can expect to learn screenwriting across multiple formats including feature film writing, television, web, and shorts. Additionally, filmmakers may be invited to write and produce content for future episodes of The Setlife™ YouTube Channel.

^ THE FILM CREW

Filmmakers join The Setlife™ production to learn various ON-SET roles to include: Directing, Assistant Director, Cinematography, Camera Operation, Production Assistant, Grip/Electrical, Behind-The-Scenes Photography.

^ THE FILM AMBASSADORS

Film Ambassadors are part of the film crew but serve as crew leaders and mentors, serving as vital points of contact, organization, and administration on SHOOT DAYS.

Ambassadors also serve as ON-CAMERA talent for episodes of The Setlife™ and are usually looking to act or perform in front of the camera.

Additionally, Film Ambassadors often take the lead in producing content for The Setlife™ social media channels and serving as role-models for our local film community.

NOTE: All tracks grant filmmakers selected for The Setlife™ Project complimentary screenwriting software to facilitate their learning environment.

^ HOW ARE APPLICANTS SELECTED FOR THE SETLIFE™ ?

Applicants are chosen to fill roles based on their chosen track and preferences. We assemble film crews with the intention of giving each student an opportunity to experience their desired on-set role.

While filmmakers are ultimately assigned positions, we attempt to accommodate students when a specific role is desired.

^ WHAT ARE THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SETLIFE™ PROJECT?

The Writers Workshop: $250.00 ONE-TIME/or MONTHLY

The Film Crew: $350.00 ONE-TIME/or MONTHLY

Film Ambassador: $350.00 ONE-TIME/or MONTHLY

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS: $2000 YEARLY/50% DISCOUNT

These fees cover our weekly studio rentals, insurance, permits, software expenses, etc.

The Setlife™ prioritizes aspiring filmmakers interested in long-term commitment and advancement of the local film community.

THE SETLIFE™ PROJECT ACCEPTS ESA SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS.

^ IS THE SETLIFE™ OPEN TO ALL APPLICANTS?

While The Setlife™ Project is open to all, the program is specifically designed and tailored for young Black creatives, artists, and filmmakers of color.

As an inclusive film community The Setlife™ Project encourages non-binary, queer, or trans-identifying artists and filmmakers to apply.

Additionally, filmmakers and artists with physical and intellectual disabilities or unique learning differences are welcome to join our community.

We embrace diversity across the Black diaspora.

^ WHAT ARE THE DATES AND DURATION OF THE SETLIFE™ PROJECT?

Our Writers Room workshops are held weekly IN-PERSON from 5:30PM to 6:30PM every Wednesday evening.

Writing spaces are finalized and announced on a weekly basis through EMAIL and The Wrap Party Newsletter after onboarding is complete.

For Film Crew & Ambassador programs our SHOOT DAYS are held weekly on Saturdays from 10AM to 2PM.

Weekly episodes of The Setlife™ are shot on these days with crew and ambassadors required to be on location at the designated call time.

Studio locations are finalized and announced on a weekly basis through EMAIL and The Wrap Party Newsletter after onboarding is complete.

This is a long term film program with a weekly production schedule. Filmmakers join writers rooms and shoot days on a rolling basis dependent on acceptance into the program and dates of enrollment.

^ AGES 13-17

The Setlife™ is a youth based educational film program focused on teaching young Black filmmakers, creatives, and artists of color from across the world about film, media production, and emergent technologies changing the landscape of our world.

As such, our writers, crew, and ambassadors are selected from those same demographics and taught the skills they in turn share with others.

^ WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I AM SELECTED TO BE A PART OF THE SETLIFE™ Project?

Applicants selected for the program will be contacted about next steps and provided detailed onboarding instructions.

Filmmakers not selected will be notified in a timely manner and are encouraged to try again —— or RSVP for future slots as they become available.
